Short-term heart rate variability in resting conditions: methodological considerations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Low values on heart rate variability (HRV) derived parameters at resting have been used to predict cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and mortality. In this regard, short-term HRV recordings (usually from 5 15 minutes) are increasing their popularity because data acquisition can be performed under more controlled conditions than long-term (e.g., 24 hours). However, different methodological aspects before, during, after the assessment could affect quantification clinical interpretations of HRV-derived parameters, as well hamper comparisons across studies. present study, we summarize these that should considered in both research settings. These are: (1) validity reproducibility device assess HRV; (2) influence software perform artefact correction; (3) previous before testing day; (4) establishing proper during respiratory frequency); (5) assessing HRV, considering “best” selection statistical analysis approach; (6) role associations between CVD risk factors outcomes cardiorespiratory fitness) parameters.

Relative influence of age, resting heart rate and sedentary life style in short-term analysis of heart rate variability.
In order to assess the relative influence of age, resting heart rate (HR) and sedentary life style, heart rate variability (HRV) was studied in two different groups. The young group (YG) consisted of 9 sedentary subjects aged 15 to 20 years (YG-S) and of 9 nonsedentary volunteers (YG-NS) also aged 15 to 20. The elderly sedentary group (ESG) consisted of 16 sedentary subjects aged 39 to 82 years...
متن کاملShort-term heart rate variability in healthy adults.
Introduction: Standardised heart rate variability (HRV) analysis is used as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for cardiovascular as well as perioperative risk stratification. The lack of reference values for young and middle-aged subjects however limits implementation of HRV analysis in the clinical setting. With this study we aimed to define reference values, and to define the influences of gen...
متن کاملShort-term heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy dogs.
Heart rate variability (HRV) is a well established mortality risk factor in both healthy dogs and those with heart failure. While the standards for short-term HRV analysis have been developed in humans, only reference values for HRV parameters determined from 24-hour ECG have been proposed in dogs. The aim of this study was to develop the reference values for short-term HRV parameters in a grou...
متن کاملAge and ethnicity differences in short-term heart-rate variability.
OBJECTIVE Hypertension is more frequent and more severe in older individuals and in African Americans. Differences in autonomic nervous system activity might contribute to these differences. Autonomic effects on the heart can be studied noninvasively through analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). We examined the effects of age and ethnicity on HRV. METHODS We studied 135 subjects (57 Afric...
متن کاملWithin-Session Stability of Short-Term Heart Rate Variability Measurement
The primary aim of this study was to assess the retest stability of the short-term heart rate variability (HRV) measurement performed within one session and without the use of any intervention. Additionally, a precise investigation of the possible impact of intrinsic biological variation on HRV reliability was also performed. First, a single test-retest HRV measurement was conducted with 20-30 ...
